Living with an itchy or flaking skin condition is uncomfortable and tiring. Care starts by confirming what's going on, identifying triggers, and building a routine that is simple enough to keep up.
For mild to moderate eczema or psoriasis, a plan may include prescription topical therapy when appropriate, barrier-repair skincare, and practical guidance on bathing, moisturizing, and flares.
Moderate to severe disease, involvement of large areas, or symptoms that suggest joint involvement often call for systemic or biologic medicine or phototherapy. Those patients are referred to a board-certified dermatologist, and to rheumatology when joints are involved.
