Botulinum toxin has been used for many years in both medical and aesthetic treatments. As with any medical procedure, risks and side effects can occur and will be reviewed during your consultation before treatment.

Most patients return to normal daily activities immediately following treatment. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising may occur at the treatment sites.

To help minimize bruising, we generally recommend avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment and avoiding blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric, garlic, and ginkgo for 5–7 days beforehand, if medically appropriate. Do not stop prescription medications unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Following treatment, we generally recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat exposure, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and vigorous rubbing or massage of the treated area for at least 24 hours. Follow all post-treatment instructions provided by your provider.

Many patients begin noticing improvement within several days, with continued improvement over the following 1–2 weeks as the treatment takes full effect.

Results vary, but many patients experience improvement for approximately 4–9 months. Repeat treatments are often recommended to maintain results.
