PRP — Hair Growth

PRP Hair Restoration uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood as part of a non-surgical treatment designed to support hair growth and improve hair density. PRP contains concentrated platelets and growth factors involved in the body's natural healing processes.

The treatment begins with a blood draw, from which platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is isolated and prepared. The PRP is then injected into targeted areas of the scalp to support the health of existing hair follicles and promote a healthier environment for hair growth.

PRP is most commonly used for certain types of hair thinning and pattern hair loss. During your consultation, we'll evaluate the cause of your hair loss and discuss whether PRP is likely to be beneficial based on your individual situation.

Yes. PRP is often incorporated into comprehensive hair restoration plans and may be combined with other treatments when appropriate. Your provider will discuss the options that best align with your goals and hair loss pattern.

PRP may be more effective for certain patients than others. If significant hair loss has already occurred, your provider may recommend additional or alternative treatment options based on your individual evaluation, goals, and the cause of your hair loss.

Most patients tolerate treatment well. You may experience mild discomfort, pressure, or sensitivity during the injections. Depending on the treatment plan, topical numbing agents may be used to improve comfort.

Possibly. Any time we place a needle into the skin, bruising is a possibility. While bruising of the scalp is generally uncommon, temporary tenderness, redness, minor bleeding, or bruising at the injection sites can occur.

Mild tenderness, sensitivity, tightness, or soreness of the scalp is common following treatment. These effects are generally temporary and improve within a few days.

Because PRP is derived from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is very low. As with any medical procedure, potential risks and side effects will be reviewed during your consultation before treatment.

Most patients return to normal daily activities shortly after treatment. Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, or sensitivity of the scalp may occur and typically resolve within several days.

To help minimize bruising and support optimal results, we generally recommend avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment and avoiding blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric, garlic, and ginkgo for 5–7 days prior, if medically appropriate. Arrive well-hydrated and after eating a light meal. Do not stop any prescription medications unless directed by your healthcare provider.

Following treatment, we generally recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen), alcohol, strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, and excessive heat exposure—including hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms—for at least 24–48 hours. Follow all post-treatment instructions provided by your provider.

PRP is not a cure for hair loss and cannot guarantee regrowth of all lost hair. Treatment is generally intended to support existing hair follicles, improve hair quality, and potentially increase hair density in appropriate candidates. Individual results vary.

Hair growth is a gradual process. Many patients begin noticing improvement over several months as hair follicles cycle through their natural growth phases. Individual results vary, and patience is important when evaluating treatment outcomes.

Most patients benefit from a series of treatments followed by periodic maintenance sessions. Your provider will recommend a treatment plan based on your degree of hair loss, treatment goals, and response to treatment.

Results vary depending on factors such as age, genetics, underlying cause of hair loss, overall health, and adherence to recommended treatment plans. Maintenance treatments are often recommended to help support long-term results.

PRP does not permanently stop the underlying causes of hair loss. Many patients choose ongoing maintenance treatments to help support their results over time. Your provider will discuss realistic expectations and long-term treatment planning during your consultation.

Many men and women experiencing thinning hair or early stages of hair loss may be candidates for PRP Hair Restoration. However, treatment may not be appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection, certain bleeding or clotting disorders, uncontrolled medical conditions, or are taking medications that may affect healing.
