How It Works
Radiofrequency energy generates controlled heat at the treatment site to precisely remove or reduce superficial skin lesions, typically performed in-office.
All lesions are evaluated clinically before treatment to confirm they are benign and appropriate for removal.
Benefits
Minimally invasive removal of benign lesions
Precise treatment with minimal disruption to surrounding tissue
Typically performed in-office
Usually a one-time treatment

RF (radiofrequency) mole and benign skin lesion removal is a procedure that uses controlled radiofrequency energy to remove or reduce the appearance of non-cancerous skin growths, including certain moles (nevi), skin tags, and other benign lesions. Treatment is performed with precision while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.
What types of skin lesions can be treated?
RF surgery may be used to remove certain benign skin lesions, including skin tags, benign moles, and other non-cancerous growths that have been evaluated by your provider. Not all lesions are appropriate for RF removal, and some may require biopsy, surgical excision, dermatology referral, or additional evaluation.
Can any mole be removed with RF surgery?
No. Suspicious, irregular, changing, or atypical lesions may require further evaluation, biopsy, or referral before removal. Your provider will determine whether a lesion is appropriate for RF treatment based on clinical assessment.
How does RF mole removal work?
Radiofrequency technology delivers controlled electrical energy that generates heat within targeted tissue. This allows your provider to precisely remove or ablate the lesion while minimizing damage to surrounding skin.
Will the mole or lesion be removed immediately?
In many cases, the lesion is removed during the treatment session. Healing then occurs over the following days to weeks as the skin repairs itself. Additional treatment may occasionally be necessary depending on the lesion type, depth, or healing response.
Will I be swollen after treatment?
Mild swelling, redness, warmth, tenderness, or sensitivity can occur after treatment and are common parts of the healing process. These effects generally improve as healing progresses.
Will there be a scab after treatment?
Yes. A superficial wound, scab, or crust commonly forms as part of the normal healing process. It is important to allow the area to heal naturally and avoid picking or scratching the treated site.
Will I have a scar after mole removal?
Any procedure that removes tissue carries a risk of scarring. While the goal is to achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome, healing varies by patient, lesion type, location, skin characteristics, and individual healing response. Scarring cannot be completely eliminated or predicted.
Can the mole or lesion come back?
Yes. Even after successful treatment, recurrence of the lesion is possible. Complete removal cannot always be guaranteed, and some lesions may require additional treatment in the future.
Will the treated area look normal afterward?
Cosmetic outcomes vary. Temporary or permanent changes in skin color, texture, or appearance can occur following treatment. Results depend on the lesion, treatment area, and individual healing response.
Do I need to use sunscreen after treatment?
Yes. Sun protection is important during healing because sun exposure may increase the risk of pigmentation changes and affect cosmetic outcomes. Your provider will review appropriate aftercare recommendations.
Can RF mole removal be combined with other aesthetic treatments?
In some cases, RF lesion removal may be incorporated into a broader treatment plan. The timing and appropriateness of combining treatments depend on the treatment area, healing requirements, and your provider's recommendations.
Will my lesion be tested for cancer?
Not necessarily. Some lesions may require biopsy or referral for histological evaluation before or after removal. If your provider has concerns about a lesion, additional evaluation may be recommended rather than cosmetic removal alone.
Does RF mole removal hurt?
Most patients tolerate treatment well. Depending on the size, depth, and location of the lesion, local anesthesia or numbing agents may be used to improve comfort during the procedure.
Will I bruise after treatment?
Bruising is possible but not always expected. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, minor bleeding, or irritation are more common following treatment. Individual healing responses vary.
Is RF mole removal safe?
RF lesion removal is commonly performed when appropriate candidates are selected. As with any medical procedure, risks exist, including infection, scarring, pigment changes, delayed healing, recurrence, burns, and cosmetic outcomes that may not meet expectations. These risks will be reviewed during your consultation.
What should I avoid before treatment?
Prior to treatment, you may be instructed to avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning, certain medications or supplements that increase bleeding risk, alcohol, and other factors that could affect healing. Arrive with clean skin and inform your provider of any changes in your health or medications.
What should I avoid after treatment?
After treatment, avoid picking, scratching, or manipulating the treated area. Avoid excessive sun exposure, friction, heat, and irritation while the area heals. Follow all aftercare instructions provided by your provider.
When will I see final results?
The lesion is typically removed during treatment, but final cosmetic results continue to develop as healing progresses over several weeks. Some improvement may continue over time as the skin remodels.
How long does healing take?
Healing times vary based on the lesion type, size, depth, location, and your individual healing response. Most patients experience healing over several days to weeks.
Are results guaranteed?
No. Individual results vary based on the lesion type, size, depth, location, skin type, healing response, and adherence to aftercare instructions. Complete removal, cosmetic outcomes, and recurrence rates cannot be guaranteed.
Am I a candidate for RF mole or lesion removal?
Many patients with benign skin lesions may be candidates for treatment. During your consultation, your provider will evaluate the lesion, review your medical history, medications, skin type, and healing history to determine whether treatment is appropriate.
Who may not be a candidate for treatment?
Treatment may not be appropriate for patients with suspicious lesions requiring biopsy, active infection, certain skin conditions, impaired wound healing, bleeding disorders, implanted electronic medical devices, pregnancy, certain medications, or other factors that may increase risk. Eligibility is determined by your provider.
