Frequently Asked Questions
What is the O-Shot®?
The O-Shot® is a non-surgical treatment that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood. PRP contains concentrated platelets and growth factors that are injected into targeted areas as part of a regenerative treatment approach focused on women's sexual wellness and vaginal health.
How does the O-Shot® work?
The treatment begins with a blood draw, from which platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is isolated and prepared. After a topical or local anesthetic is applied for comfort, the concentrated PRP is injected into specific areas of the vaginal and/or clitoral tissue.
What concerns can the O-Shot® address?
PRP vaginal injections may be used as part of a treatment plan focused on sexual arousal, sensitivity, lubrication, orgasmic function, mild stress urinary incontinence, and overall vaginal wellness. Individual results vary and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
Does the O-Shot® tighten the vagina?
The primary purpose of the O-Shot® is not vaginal tightening. The treatment is intended to support tissue health, blood flow, sexual wellness, and vaginal function. While some patients may notice improvements in tissue quality or overall function, significant tightening should not be expected, and individual results vary.
Can the O-Shot® improve sexual sensation or arousal?
Some patients report improvements in sexual arousal, sensitivity, lubrication, and orgasmic function following treatment. However, sexual health is influenced by many factors, and individual responses vary. Results cannot be guaranteed.
Can the O-Shot® help with urinary leakage?
PRP treatment may help improve mild stress urinary incontinence in some patients. However, outcomes vary, and additional or alternative treatments may be more appropriate depending on the underlying cause and severity of symptoms.
Does the treatment tighten the vagina?
The primary purpose of the O-Shot® is not vaginal tightening. The treatment is intended to support tissue health, blood flow, and sexual wellness. Some patients may notice changes in tissue quality or function, but outcomes vary and significant tightening should not be expected.
Will I be swollen after treatment?
Yes, some swelling is expected following treatment. Because the O-Shot® involves injections into sensitive tissue, temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, spotting, or sensitivity are normal responses. These effects are typically mild and improve within a few days as the treated area heals.
Can the O-Shot® be combined with other treatments?
Yes. PRP therapy may be incorporated into a broader sexual wellness treatment plan and may be combined with other therapies when clinically appropriate. Your provider will discuss the options best suited to your goals and medical history.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most patients tolerate treatment well. A topical or local anesthetic is typically used to improve comfort. Patients may experience mild pressure, pinching, or temporary sensitivity during the procedure.
Will I bruise after treatment?
Possibly. Any time we place a needle into the skin, bruising is a possibility. Temporary bruising, redness, tenderness, minor bleeding, spotting, or swelling can occur and generally improve within several days.
Is PRP safe?
Because PRP is derived from your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is very low. As with any medical procedure, potential risks and side effects will be reviewed during your consultation before treatment.
Is there any downtime?
Most patients can resume normal daily activities shortly after treatment. Temporary soreness, swelling, tenderness, spotting, or sensitivity may occur but generally resolve within several days.
When can I resume sexual activity?
Sexual activity may typically be resumed within 24–48 hours following treatment unless otherwise directed by your provider. Your provider will review any individualized post-treatment instructions with you.
What should I avoid before treatment?
To help minimize bruising and support optimal healing, we generally recommend avoiding alcohol for 24 hours before treatment and avoiding blood-thinning supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric, garlic, and ginkgo for 5–7 days prior, if medically appropriate. Arrive well-hydrated after eating a light meal, and do not stop prescription medications unless directed by your healthcare provider. Treatment should be postponed if you have an active vaginal infection, irritation, or other concerning symptoms.
What should I avoid after treatment?
Following treatment, we generally recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen), alcohol, strenuous exercise, excessive heat exposure, tampons, douching, and intravaginal products for at least 24–48 hours or as directed by your provider. Follow all post-treatment instructions provided by your care team.
When will I see results?
Results are not immediate and typically develop gradually over several weeks. Individual responses vary based on factors such as age, hormonal status, overall health, and the condition being treated.
How many treatments will I need?
A series of treatments may be recommended to optimize outcomes, followed by maintenance treatments as determined by your provider. Your treatment plan will be customized based on your goals and response to treatment.
How long do results last?
The duration of results varies by individual and may last several months to over one year depending on factors such as age, hormonal status, overall health, lifestyle, and adherence to treatment recommendations.
Are results guaranteed?
No. Results cannot be predicted or guaranteed. Sexual wellness outcomes are influenced by many factors, including age, hormone levels, circulation, overall health, lifestyle factors, and underlying medical conditions. Additional or alternative treatments may be needed to achieve desired outcomes.
Am I a candidate for the O-Shot®?
Many women seeking a non-surgical approach to sexual wellness and vaginal rejuvenation may be candidates for PRP treatment. However, treatment may not be appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active vaginal infection or irritation, certain bleeding or clotting disorders, are taking certain blood-thinning medications, are undergoing cancer treatment, or have recently had surgery or procedures involving the treatment area. During your consultation, we'll review your medical history and goals to determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.
