The “O” Shot
Male sexual dissatisfaction and dysfunction has been a topic of open discussion and treatment for years. There are currently over 20 medications or devices that address this issue. Yet, little has been said or done about female sexual problems. Over 40% of women suffer from female sexual dysfunction yet only about 10% seek treatment. And to these 10%, treatments have often been unsatisfactory leaving the problem unsolved. Many experts today still imply that female sexual problems can be addressed with counseling, lubrication and a good vibrator.
The symptoms of sexual dysfunction are myriad: decreased sex-drive (libido), impaired arousal, delayed or unsatisfactory orgasms or a total inability to achieve orgasm (anorgasmia). Orgasm is not only one of the most pleasurable experiences in life, but in females, the Oxytocin released from the brain leads to an enhanced feeling of well-being and reduction of stress.
Improve Sexual Satisfaction and Decrease Incontinence
Why the concern? Research has proven that improved sexual function leads to more joy, creativity and increased confidence, can decrease depression and improve overall health. We know that increased intimacy strengthens the bond in a relationship and by doing so, can create stronger families.
Aware of the problem of female sexual dysfunction, of the large number of women experiencing it and the lack of adequate treatment, in 2011 Dr. Charles Runels research developed a truly revolutionary treatment: The O Shot. However, not only does this procedure address female sexual dysfunction, it can also be an effective treatment for urinary incontinence.
Stress or urge incontinence (leaking of urine) is fairly common after childbirth or menopause and is an embarrassment for 1 in 20 women. There are very few treatments available and most women believe they just have to “live with it”. An O Shot may be of help with this difficult-to-treat, quality-of-life issue.
The newest use of PRP to the genital area is for treatment of Lichen Sclerosus, a chronic disease whose symptoms can severely affect quality-of-life.
Orgasm Shot Increases Libido, Arousal & Sense of Well Being
The O Shot nonsurgical procedure begins with harvesting your body’s own PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma. After anesthetizing the upper vaginal wall (O Spot) and Clitoris with a powerful numbing cream, the PRP is injected into these sites painlessly. There is no downtime and all activities including sexual intercourse can be immediately resumed. And, some women experience an immediate heightened arousal due to the pressure of the PRP. During the next few weeks, vaginal rejuvenation begins with full effect noted at 3 months.
Benefits of the O Shot include:
- Increased libido
- Increased vaginal lubrication
- Increased arousal from clitoral and vaginal stimulation
- Stronger, more frequent orgasms
- Decreased Dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
- Decreased urinary incontinence
- Treatment for Lichen Sclerosus
Since being trained by Dr. Runels in 2014, Dr. Cohen has administered numerous O Shots successfully. As of 2015 there were over 760 providers trained to perform the “O” Shot – and this number continues to keep growing. More than 10,000 procedures have been done-to-date safely and without complication. Four in ten women can benefit from an “O” Shot and over 85% will achieve good response. Improvement is typically maintained for 12 – 18 months but treatment can be repeated at 8 – 10 weeks if desired.
How the O Shot helped Kathy
I always enjoyed sex with my husband (well, when I wasn’t tired). I don’t know the exact day I felt pain, but it was in my mid forties when I realized it hurt to have sex. My husband was so understanding when I explained but year 46 was when I began my quest to find out why I had so much pain for something that used to be so much fun.
I went to my Gynecologist who determined it was my large fibroid cysts that were perhaps putting pressure on my cervix. Surgery was recommended so I had a hysterectomy and my cervix removed. Eight months later there was still no difference in the pain. I was then sent to a Gastroenterologist just to make sure the pain wasn’t a result of my colon. It wasn’t.
This was followed by a referral to a specialist at Hershey Medical Center where various drugs were prescribed. I did start feeling some relief but sex was still a careful evening planned out for days. While visiting Dr. Cohen, I noticed information about a procedure called the O Shot. I thought why not give this a try? It sounded like such a healthy alternative (taking one’s own platelets and injecting them back in the areas compromised). While I knew it might not work, I believed I had nothing to lose and a lot to gain if it did. I scheduled an appointment that day.
Six months after my O shot – at year 53 – I experienced totally pain free sex! The O shot brought the fun back, and I enjoy sex once again…of course that is when I am not tired.”

A Story Of Lichen Sclerosus
Ten years ago – after discontinuing many years use of birth control pills – I began menopause at age 50. After checking hormone levels, my GYN said” Welcome to menopause and no more periods!” Experiencing menopausal symptoms, I opted for BHRT (bio-identical hormone replacement therapy) which I continued for the next 10 years. The past 5 years have been the most challenging. Despite the BHRT, my sexual function was diminishing. I also began developing autoimmune disorders: Telogen Effluvium (hair shedding) and Granuloma Annulare (ugly skin bumps on the arms and legs). Adding to this suffering, most recently I developed Lichens Sclerosus! I was told the only available treatment for Lichens was clobetasol – a powerful steroid that thins the skin and does not always work. My gynecologist informed me of studies across the US using PRP for Lichens. Since I’d had the Telogen and Granuloma successfully treated with PRP and had had success with O Shots (for sexual dysfunction like orgasm, atrophy and urinary stress incontinence), I decided to give a try… it worked! My conditioned cleared with 2 treatments!
